LITTLEROOT TOWN. Authorities are bombarded with emergency calls, stating that the townspeople of Littleroot have succumbed to a mysterious condition. Throughout the quiet town, people dance for hours on end. As they perform their biohazard-boogie, they chant:[break][break]

If approached too closely, the possessed immediately turn hostile. They employ their similarly possessed Pokemon. Further scrutiny of the affected will reveal that they all sport a TOXIC CHAIN, which will disintegrate upon their defeat.[break][break]

In the city's center, a TERA CRYSTAL FORMATION can be seen. It pulses with poison—and the puppeteer behind all of the madness is nowhere to be found.[break][break]

Survivors must be safely extracted before they are turned by the poisoned. The infected must be purified. Littleroot must be liberated. As your trainers investigate and battle through the contaminated town, one wonders... what would happen if the infection was allowed to be spread?

[break][break] Last time that Jayden had come to LITTLEROOT, it had been after the events of METENO. Crystals had littered the barren field, and it was the first time that he and the Underboss had shared a likeliness that extended beyond their connection to Rocket.

[break][break] It was for that reason, Jayden wandered the village, after upon hearing the various reports of possessed people in the town and thought about her. He thought about what VELMOS had said at that meeting, blue-tinged skin and dripping teeth. Of the power source that lurked beneath the village. He pocketed some of the MOCHI from the vendors, pocketing into a plastic bag for further discovery, but as he did so — he saw something.

He told them. He fucking told him. He told his bosses that not heeding the Toxic Chain would end in disaster, and look where it got them?

"Individuals... afflicted... dangerous..." Howard muttered as he scribbled his report onto a roll of toilet paper. Outside the gas station bathroom, dozens of people were screaming outside. Howard himself was unceremoniously hiding in a bathroom stall out of fear of the contagion.

The last time he saw these chains, there had been much screaming, a spaceship, and a bear. Doug himself was inside his Gigaton Ball while Howard continued to scribble onto his toilet paper roll.

"Contagious spread... do not contact... Notify Shred."

Outside, the gas station customers continued chanting.

"MOCHI! MOCHI! MOCHI!"

"I hate my fucking job." Howard held his head in his hands from inside the bathroom stall. He just wanted to buy a statue of an Oddish for half-price from a pawn shop. "I fucking TOLD THEM!"

Once word of the maddening dances in Littleroot passed through official League channels quickly. Able-bodied Rangers with poison-type Pokémon were asked to aid in any way they could. Poison and Steel-type Pokémon were helpful, as it seemed like a poison-type Pokémon was responsible. This let Josh give some of his lesser-used Pokémon some spotlight.

"Tiamat, let's go!" Josh cried, taking a seat on his Dragonite's back as he flew southwest toward Hideo Kino 's town. "EXTREME SPEED!" With a loud bellow and humming wings, a dust corona flew outward from the speeding dragon-type. Around him flew a blue Pokémon at equally incredible speed, a similar corona enveloping it. A Pokémon had to be very special to be able to keep up with a Dragonite flying so fast. By the time he could catch a glimpse of the blue mirage, it had already vanished. Turned invisible.

Once the two reached Littleroot, they went their own separate ways, heading to opposite sides of the town to get to work. The Gym Leader landed and withdrew the dragon, swapping ride Pokémon to Seizan, his Skuntank. He also clicked open Steel Needle's Poké Ball; while the Gliscor was not poison-type, it was resistant enough to poison that it would be helpful in assisting people in their escape.

each inflection is parroted the exact same way as he hears it except it lacks the obvious enthusiasm.

a few seconds pass before his voice breaks again.

"just kidding. i'm not infected, but those that are repeat that chant, so do be wary."

When he'd gotten wind that something weird was happening in Littleroot, he thought it might have been a wild pokemon that had come too far into civilization, or maybe - if he was lucky - a sinkhole.

What he hadn't expected to find was a bunch of dancing zombies. Dancing was cool. Zombies were definitely not.

He'd immediately set to work trying to shake people out of their stupor, but that had only seemed to enrage them. "Come on, brah," he scowled at what he guessed was the mailman, "My dancing's not that bad, but I'm pretty sure yours ain't so hot either, so don't gimme that look!"

He struggled to break free of the man's grip without hurting him, but the smaller dude was like a Corphish, clamped around his midsection and attempting to drag him into the line of fire of his Growlithe, who was spewing EMBERS all over the place. Torben similarly had his hands (paws?) full, rapid-fire BULLET PUNCHes barely keeping the poison-chained pokemon at bay.

With a grunt, Beau simply fell over, leaning his weight into the fall and slamming the man under him with a satisfying 'oomph'. Hopefully he hadn't broken anything. "Torben!" he called, the Pangoro growling in response as he punched the Growlithe in the face. "We gotta snap as many people as we can out of it, but don't hurt 'em!"

The bear raised an expressive eyebrow at Beau, as if to say 'Fat chance,' but his next blow - to a snarling Linoone - was maybe a little less harsh. Beau blinked at the fallen Growlithe, the strange chain around its neck disintegrating into the breeze.

she's witnessed this behavior only in the other realms, those distorted, loosely connected places where upside is down. and there, there is where things aren't supposed to make sense. not here. not among the people who don't choose to pass through those gateways.

sypha is at her side, safeguard ribbons twined around freya's arms. the sickness spreads, but those who haven't been afflicted are drawn to her. sweat slides down the back of her neck as she manipulates the guards, calling for others to help evacuate the clean.

their path is blocked. a father and his daughter stumble into her back; a protective arm comes out before them. the other reaches for the ball at her choker. but then the infected stumble, shoved away by some invisible force.

she reaches for their hands, dragging them through the danger, and only when they're safe does she spare a look over her shoulder.

and she sees nothing but the agonized and the people they've yet to save.

Nothing in sight tells of just what is causing this madness, no sign of a mastermind pulling the strings. Still, Noel jumps at the chance of rescuing those afflicted by this sickness, hopefully he is able to snap these people out of their trance.[break][break]

One by one Noel and his Shaymin fend off against the townsfolk, keeping them at bay while their other League companions work quickly to figure out a way to cure them. But one manages to break through and take a swipe at the grass-type. It leaps back and counteracts with a weak Zen Headbutt, knocking out the aggressor in one fell swoop for the paramedics to recover. Their poison seeps into the hedgehog's fur, coursing all throughout its body. Thankfully due to its Natural Cure, such attempts at weakening the Pokemon fall short and it swiftly returns back into full force.[break][break]

The zombified villagers fight tirelessly onward, with no end in sight to their frantic frenzy. And just like them, Noel and his Shaymin fight on, not stopping until every single one of them would be saved.

"Don't hurt them, Earl: just cover me while I clear an escape route." Remiel nods, casting a LIGHTNING STILETTO at the center of town to spawn an ELECTRICAL FIELD. With his SPEED increased and his would-be assailants hampered, the Galarian would go to each home and escort each civilian out of their possessed town and into the next route.[break][break]

So this was the TOXIC CHAIN that Admin Fox had reported to Rocket about. She'd not given howard slayte enough credit for his description of those events, but now, seeing it for herself, she could understand the terror of this disease all too well.[break][break]

Weeks and months of fruitless searching. Days and nights spent scrounging in the mud of Route 119. So many hours investigating into a disaster waiting to happen, only to be met with countless dead ends. And after everything you've done, after all that effort? It's dumb luck that gives you the clue you were looking for.

You don't even know why you were in Littleroot. Arceus knows a guy like you don't have any business in this nowhere town. Yet, you were here, and so you're among the first to witness this outbreak. Funny, isn't it?

No. It's not. It's extremely fucking frustrating, and frankly, if you'd known how this was going to play out? You'd have saved yourself a lot of wading about in swamp water, and avoided a trouble in the process. Seriously, you had to get a plumber in because your shower's drain got clogged from all the mud you were washing off. It was a gigantic pain right in the midst of your asshole.

Still, no point complaining about it now. Even if you're not grateful, it's at least something to go off. But before you can start to study up on what's happening here, you need to make sure tht it doesn't spread further.

"Cut as many chains as you can."

As your Doublade severs the Toxic Chains of the misfortunate villager, you watch with weary eyes. Could you have prevented this, somehow? No, probably not. No amount of struggling on your end could've helped. This was always going to happen, and there was no effort you could've put up beforehand that would've been able to stop it. Fate's a bitch like that.

Oh well. Nothing you can do about it. Just have to put your nose to the grindstone and hope it's not too late... Well, it probably is, but that's not your fault, is it? Again, it was always out of your hands. And despite that? You tried. By god, you really tried...

She was called into littleroot as there was a disturbance going on, not many details had been given to her but she had assumed it was mechanical kingdom related. However, it seemed that was not the case. Strange poison had begun to infest the land around them, melody instinctively activates her sygnasuit to defend herself against the poison spreading quickly but the pair quickly figure out that the sygnasuit wasn't able to defend against it as she could see some other league personnel with minor sygnasuits were falling victim to the poison chains wrapped onto their bodies, puppeteering them. [break][break]

She pauses for a moment to analyze the situation and decides to recall her Primarina. If she fell victim to this poison and had her sygnasuit activated, she'd become a major problem. She had lost control of her mind and body once and she wouldn't have that happen again. She instead sends out a rare pick, her shiny Corsola. The league personnel with the sygnasuit identifies her as a threat, sending out a toxic chained Gloom that instantly spews out a glob of poison towards her corsola. [break][break]

The corsola cries out before taking a moment to spew the poison out of it's mouth as it shines in defiance and uses NATURAL CURE. Melody's gamble was worth it "Great job sweetie! Let's help the others get back autonomy over themselves and set things right! Bubble beam!" she orders as Corsola raise sit's little hands out with a big cheer as it fires a condensed beam of bubbles towards the gloom and sends it flying towards it's trainer and knocking the two into each other "Follow up!" [break][break]

An EARTH POWER erupts from underneath sweeping the league possesses trainer and the gloom together. Knocking both out at once as the toxic chains dissipate from their body as they start to wake up. "Are you ok?!" she asks as Corsola waddles up to them and starts to use it's Natural cure to try and remove any remnants of the hostile invader from their body. It seemed like her Elite 4 duties would never end, nonetheless, the show must go on!

The sound of chaos trumpets his arrival, the strange sensation reported across all League channels turning Littleroot into little more than a circus.

Panic doesn't suit a member of the Elite Four, so he calmly assesses the threats, and performs a rather quick risk analysis of the current situation. The threat was unknown, therefore placed rather high on the index, its mysterious origins only feeding into it.

Questions come to mind: Did it spread by touch? By air? By liquid? Was it deadly? Reverseable? Did it leave permanent damage? More than he could possibly ascertain answers too, was the only answer he knew in his heart.

Caution guides his hands as he wraps a black cloth mask over his nose and mouth while at the same time checking his PokeNav Plus — it wasn't exactly mainstream yet, but those lucky enough to get there hands on it could testify to the usefulness. Even now he was tracking League agents in real-time throughout the city, and with a little coordination, could map this entire affair out with relative accuracy.

Using this information he's able to formulate a much more efficient response using the bodies available to him. Quickly, though clearly suffering from the chaos, Greyson is able to slowly seal off entrances and exists to the city. There simply wasn't enough people to cover everything, but 50% of better than 0%.

No matter what this couldn't spread beyond this point — it didn't take someone proficient in zombie movies to come to this conclusion, though in this case, it certainly helped that Greyson was one of those people.

Lifting his gaze from the map, he grounds himself in reality once again, then takes off down the street and in pursuit of a mob of chained individuals. Each step is ILLUMINATED with the brilliance of a star, luring every enemy in a hundred yards radius to him, and away from the civilians. Before he knows it, there's a horde on his tail, and a primal anxiety tears away at his heart.

Ah, the things he did out of civil service, and of course, the goodness of his heart.

So the toxic chain had been made to bloom once more- the grotesque appendage that once afflicted the tattoos upon her forehead, taking the form of a hand with a wish to pluck the crown. Those of innocence were made to endure it, forced to dance and seek death against their will in the name of mochi..[break][break]

".. The fuck..?" She said to her driver in disbelief, crimson eyes shining through the tinted glass in the passenger. A chance encounter, a chance reminiscence; but why did all of this have to be happening now, when turmoil seeped upward from the giant chasm all the same? Well, nothing could be the same as the magenta that lurked in the shadow of the cannibals.[break][break]

But now was not a good time to face death in its eyes. Having spent so much of what she believed to be a one-out ordinary day entertaining modeling photoshoots in highly avante-garde fashion, ascending from the limousine seat in such constricting clothing was out of the question. The gaze of the toxic chain would consume if there was any weakness, any constrictions. At least, that is what she believed behind glass.[break][break]
